Description

Why Should I Take CoQ10?

Coenzyme Q10, or more commonly known as CoQ10, is an endogenous compound which is highly involved in ATP synthesis and cardiovascular function. CoQ10 can exist in two forms, the oxidized form called ubiquinone and the reduced form called ubiquinol. Our CoQ10 capsules contain ubiquinone. While ubiquinol is the superior form for mitigating oxidative stress, ubiquinone is the best for promoting cellular energy. This is due to the fact that ubiquinone plays an important role in the electron transport chain and is directly involved with producing ATP. In our experience, CoQ10 in the form of ubiquinone produces a fairly palpable boost in cellular energy which can be felt as a clean and zippy sense of natural energy!*

CoQ10 is important for lots of different processes in the body. In fact, let’s simplify this. CoQ10 is important for every process in the body which requires ATP because without CoQ10 we cannot efficiently produce ATP. Since almost every process in our body needs ATP at some point this means that the importance of maintaining adequate levels of CoQ10 cannot be stressed enough! CoQ10 in the form of ubiquinone is great for everyday use in order to enhance cellular energy and can be especially useful for athletes looking to boost their muscle function since muscles require lots of ATP to operate.* Furthermore, studies have shown a link between mood and CoQ10 levels with low CoQ10 levels resulting in low mood. Thus, topping up our CoQ10 levels can have a wide variety of benefits!*

What is CoQ10?

Coenzyme Q10, also known as CoQ10, is, as the name may suggest, a coenzyme. Coenzymes are compounds which act in conjunction with enzymes in order to drive their activity. Another great example of a highly important coenzyme in our bodies is NAD+ or Coenzyme A which are derived from vitamin B5. CoQ10 mainly functions as a coenzyme in the citric acid cycle (kreb’s cycle) and the electron transport chain where it is highly important in deriving usable energy from food and generating ATP.

Perhaps more important than its function as a coenzyme is the fact the CoQ10 acts as an electron carrier. This means that CoQ10 accepts electrons in the electron transport chain and helps shuttle them along in order to eventually generate ATP. This means that without CoQ10 the electron transport chain cannot function properly. The electron transport chain generates the ATP that almost every process in our bodies and brains is powered by so the importance of CoQ10 cannot be stressed enough! This is especially true in large organs that require lots of ATP, such as the brain and heart.

We have the ability to synthesize CoQ10 in our bodies and we consume quite a bit of it through our diet. In our diet, it is mostly found in fish such as salmon, organ meats and whole grains. However, due to the fact that we require large amounts of CoQ10, it is also a good idea to supplement our diet with a CoQ10 supplement!

CoQ10 Benefits & Uses

    • Promotes cellular energy*
    • Supports cardiovascular function*
    • Enhances mood*

An Endogenous Cellular Energy Booster

One of the most important roles of CoQ10 in the body is to act as an electron carrier in the electron transport chain. This means that CoQ10 helps carry electrons through the electron transport chain which ultimately yields ATP. This essential function of CoQ10 also underlies its major benefit - enhancing cellular energy! While we obtain CoQ10 through our diet and even have the ability to synthesize CoQ10 in our bodies, we require so much of it to produce energy in the form of ATP that supplementing with CoQ10 oftentimes leads to a fairly energizing feeling. This is especially true for ubiquinone, which is the main form of CoQ10 that helps carry electrons through the electron transport chain.

This increase in cellular energy can be noticed in a number of different ways. For athletes, it can help enhance endurance, muscle power and recovery in a manner similar to creatine monohydrate which also helps enhance the synthesis of ATP. Cognitively, CoQ10 can have an energizing effect which oftentimes presents itself as a mild mood boost and an increase in overall mental clarity. The effects of CoQ10 can also help with both physical and mental endurance.

Some effects of CoQ10 cannot be felt but are still very important to our overall well being. Due to the fact that our cardiovascular system requires lots of ATP it means that our cardiovascular function also depends quite heavily on the presence of adequate CoQ10. With this in mind, it is no surprise that CoQ10 can have a positive effect on overall cardiovascular function. This is especially true when you take into account that CoQ10 also modulates cholesterol function and acts as a comprehensive oxidation regulating compound.

Dosing Advise

Unlike our more premium and advanced CoQ10 offerings such as CoQsol-CF and CoQH-CF, our CoQ10 capsules have not been optimized for bioavailability. This is not to say that the bioavailability of our CoQ10 is terrible, however, some extra considerations need to be taken. Various research studies have shown that CoQ10 in its crystalline powder form does not absorb well on an empty stomach, but is absorbed well if it is taken with a fat-containing meal. With this in mind, we would suggest that our CoQ10 capsules are taken with a meal for optimal absorption!

CoQ10 Stacks

The Cellular Energy Stack: CoQ10 + NADH Powder

One of the main functions of ubiquinone is to generate ATP in the electron transport chain. For this process to work, we also need NADH. When combined, ubiquinone and NADH produce a significant ATP boosting effect which can clearly be felt as a surge of clean energy! This stack is great for those looking to generally boost their cellular energy and is particularly geared towards athletes looking for that extra ATP boost to power their workouts.*

Cardiovascular Stack: CoQ10 + L-Citrulline Capsules

CoQ10 also plays a major role in our cardiovascular system by providing some of the energy needed in our cardiovascular system in addition to helping mitigate oxidative stress. Combine this with the vasodilating effects of L-citrulline and you end up with a comprehensive stack for supporting overall cardiovascular function.*

Mood Stack: CoQ10 + Magtein Magnesium L-Threonate Capsules

CoQ10 also plays a major role in our mood and it has been shown that individuals with low moods tend to have low levels of CoQ10. This reminds us of another important compound in our bodies: magnesium! In our experience, the combination of magnesium and CoQ10 produces a very natural feeling mood boost which is nice and uplifting. We find that this effect is especially pronounced when CoQ10 is combined with Magtein!*

CoQ10 Dosage

As a dietary supplement, take one capsules of CoQ10 daily.
